Brian Warner Academy is a homeschool project that started in 2020 during the pandemic. Like many parents, the pandemic offered an opportunity to try homeschooling and compare it to the public school system. The results for our children were astounding. They advanced faster, retained the material longer, and had unique learning opportunities (learning Japanese). Not to mention the accesses to real-world skills.

Our children were given college level tasks, such as using the Cornell note taking system and they were given skill programs suitable for adults (such as Adobe courses on Illustration, Video editing, Ubuntu administration, and UI/UX.)

College level courses were also attempted with great success. At 11 years old, Carlyle was able to complete several college level courses, scoring A’s in each.

While homeschooling can seem daunting at first, it is doable by recognizing one’s role as education facilitators. Providing children with high quality content is the key. We’ve tried a variety of online systems. Some worked out better than others. Below are some of the best sources of information we’ve found to work with quality education online.

Homeschool Management

For working parents like us, we make use of tools to manage our children’s learning process.

ClickUp.com is used to project manage the daily educational activities, while MySchoolYear.com is used to keep a record of both online and offline curriculum results and attendance.

Homeschool Resources & Curriculums

There are many different online and offline resources for homeschooling. For my family what worked best was online systems. My son related very well to the instant feedback of online grading. There are systems that provide live courses, most are recorded lectures. Some we found to have great features and others lacking. It all depends on your own children and how they interact the material provided.

For the 2022-2023 School year, I opted to use the following core learning systems:

  • Primary learning system (all topics): Study.com
  • Primary Math learning system: Aleks.com
  • Secondary learning system: Acellus.com
  • Extracurricular topics: Skillshare, Codecademy
  • College Level Courses: Arizona State Univ., Hillsdale College
